Departmental DFS Root
Support of a Distributed File System domain DFS root is provided for
departments. DFS allows your user community to access shared files by only
the domain name and your department abbreviation. The actual servers (and
share names) need not be known by users since they are "linked to" using
meaningful folder names (selected by you).
It is highly
recommended that only DFSN roots be created at this time (you will need to
have at least one Windows Server 2008 system on the departmental end). Older
Windows Server 2000/2003 DFS v1 roots require manual replication copying and
less direct control of your root servers. DFSN roots allow for more
automation and improved root/replica management on your part.
